Information about Fortaleza

Fortaleza is the capital of Ceara State and is located in north eastern Brazil . It is a major fishing port and a fast-growing tourist destination with the Atlantic Ocean to the north fo the city.

The climate is tropical between 75º and 90ºF through the year. The summer is from November to April and is hot and humid, but during the winter the weather is very mild and pleasant.

Because of its almost perfect climate there is a very strong beach culture in Fortaleza , with the best beaches east of the town at Praia de Iracema and Praiai do Futoro, where the surfing is excellent. Cumbuco Beach is surrounded by some spectacular dunes which is great if you want to sunbathe in isolation.

There are some beautiful Cathedrals worth visiting, and the more adventurous can try the helicopter rides in Fortaleza plus the many hiking and sporting activities you can participate in .

Most of what the place has to offer food-wise can be found in the beach restaurants (Barracas), particularly Rua dos Tabajars on Praia de Iracema where great Brazilian cuisine and seafood can be sampled. There are lots of lively and brightly coloured bars and restaurants in the area of Rua dos Tabajars, where the young people congregate and create a great atmosphere.
