It was transformed in the late 20th Century from small, quiet fishing villages into a world famous tourist destination. Famous for its holiday hot spots such as fashionable Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and the cosmopolitan Puerto Banus with its reputation for chic and stylish celebrity visitors and its stunning marina full of large international yachts.

The mountain range running down the coast adds to the beautiful and stunning scenery. A short drive into the mountains from the coast you will find the white villages still very much in evidence where the Spanish live according to age-old traditions.

With its 50 plus golf courses, the coast is sometimes referred to as ´The Golf Coast´ or `Costa del Golf. The excellent championship courses attract golfers from all over the world and hosts the Volvo Classic at the world famous Valderrama Golf Club near Sotogrande during the month of October.

There are 160 km of beaches along the coast so there is something to suit everyone, from the busy tourist spots like Fuengirola and Torremolinos to the more secluded ones further west towards Estepona and Sotogrande.

Water sports are available on the more popular beaches including water and jet skiing to parascending, banana boats, pedalos, etc. Or you can set off from many of the marinas on the coast for a day of sailing, cruising and fishing.

Eating out at the beach is a fantastic experience. Most beaches have small Spanish bar/restaurants known as Chiringuitos where can enjoy fresh seafood and shellfish with sardines grilled on the barbecue, or just sit and have a cool drink and watch the world go by.

Nightlife on the Costa del Sol is synonymous with partying, fabulous restaurants, bars, discos and clubbing.

There is every type of restaurant and food available that you could wish for from five star international cuisine to the typical Andalusian fare like paella, tortilla and gazpacho that can be found along the coast and in the many traditional villages.
