Despite its distance from Europe, Brazil is very easy and cheap to get to with direct charter flights now available from the UK to Salvador . British Airways and Varig (the Brazilian national airline) offer non-stop flights from London to São Paulo with flights continuing on to Rio de Janeiro.

The sheer size of Brazil makes internal flights the best option for getting around the country. São Paulo is the main hub for flight connections and the three international airports in Brazil are Rio de Janeiro (Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim), Brasilia and Sao Paulo Guarulhos.

The national airlines of Brazil are TAM (KK), Varig (RG) and VASP (VP) and other airlines which serve Brazil are: Aerolineas Argentinas, Air France , Alitalia, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Iberia , Japan Airlines, KLM, LAN-Chile, Lufthansa, Pluna, South African Airways, SAS, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal and United Airlines.

If you are planning to drive in Brazil then the speed limits are 60 km/h in populated areas, 80 km/h outside populated areas and 120 km/h on motorways with spot fines being charged even for minor violations. Petrol stations can be found on average every 30 to 50 km and Brazilians drive on the right-hand side of the road.

urrency regulations in Brazil are very strict and if you enter the country with cash of any currency amounting to the equivalent of Leva 8000 (2Lv = approx. 1 Euro) or more, you are obliged you to declare it to customs officials. If you fail to do this the money will be confiscated and you may also be detained and charged.
